What is the overtime rate in the UAE?
Overtime is paid at the normal hourly rate plus twenty-five per cent, so 125 per cent of the basic hourly rate. It rises to 150 per cent for hours worked between 10pm and 4am, which does not apply to staff working shift patterns.
What are normal working hours in the UAE private sector?
Eight hours a day or forty-eight hours a week, reduced during Ramadan. Overtime is normally limited to two hours a day.
What am I paid for working on a rest day?
Either a compensatory day off, or the basic wage for that day plus fifty per cent. If no replacement day is given, the entitlement is 150 per cent of the day's basic wage.
Is overtime calculated on basic salary or gross?
Basic salary. The hourly rate is derived from basic pay, not from the total package including allowances.
Who is excluded from overtime rules?
Certain senior and supervisory roles, and staff on shift systems for the night-hours uplift specifically. The employment contract and the job's actual duties both matter, so check before assuming an exclusion applies.
